Update 5/3
Hi everyone! We had another great week. The weather is getting nicer!
Each small group has finished their story at their level and has taken a quiz, next week we will go over these quizzes and discuss test taking strategies and finding the answers in our reading.
We are moving full steam ahead in math. We are finishing our geometry unit. Please review basic shapes at home with your child (square, rectangle, triangle, circle, trapezoid, hexagon) and 3D shapes (sphere, cube, triangular prism, rectangular prism, cylinder). The students had a lot of fun exploring with shapes.
Next week we will be going to the farm... In math! This is another thematic unit! It should be exciting, but involves a lot of prep work..parent volunteers are welcome!
In writing we finished our friendly letters and are now moving onto really discussing the 6 traits of writing through a book titled, "So You Want To Be President?" Our class has a strange obsession with presidents (maybe because two of our student's first names match the last names of two presidents..) but, I thought this would be a fun way to learn about the presidents and about writing. Now, if they could only calm down for a couple of minutes!
That reminds me, take some time this weekend to discuss with your child the importance of listening while the teacher is talking. It is important that they don't miss any critical information or instruction. With the weather getting nicer, the students get a little antsier, so just give them a friendly reminder. :)
We have a lot going on next week, be sure to check The Buzz that went home Friday! We also have our field trip Tuesday. Remember to dress with long pants and good shoes. Bring a hat and jacket!
Bistro Night is May 10th! This is a great opportunity to raise money for new furniture! Your child might be sitting in a backless chair right now! Ask them! Come bid on our class project, it will look nice in your home :)
